Weather Plays a Role in Landing

Weather plays a role in landing.
Astronauts delay a shuttle landing in Miami, Florida. According to the New York Times, contributor William Harwood is reporting, “The Space Shuttle Endeavour astronauts, faced with high crosswinds and low clouds, passed up two Florida landing opportunities Sunday and instead prepared the ship for a descent to California’s Edwards Air Force Base to close out a grueling 16-day space station assembly mission.” The commander of the shuttle in Navy captain Christopher J. Ferguson and pilot Air Force Colonel Eric A. Boe had every single intention of landing the shuttle.
But inclement weather conditions made Flight Director Bryan Lunney call off the two landings. Although flight director Lunney wants to try and have the Space Shuttle Endeavour land again in Florida on Monday, meteorologists are prognosticating that the weather will not show any signs of getting better. Navy Captain Ferguson believes that he understands why there was a delay and hopes the weather improves soon.
