Farragut North: Politics at Their Dirtiest
13-Nov-2008
Written by: Mic Mell
Farragut North gives us an inside view of politics, and the cost to the players.
The old adage is that art imitates life, and sometimes it hits dead on. Beau Willimon has hit the stage with Farragut North, a play that brings us deep inside the world of politics and campaigning. From the anchorpeople to the candidates, the play mirrors our political process, and gives us another taste of the adventures that are the elections that just ended.
The latest production by Atlantic Theater Company may not hold too many surprises, but it holds a deep realism and authentic dialogue, banking that our preoccupation with election year politics is still brimming. Willimon has worked on many campaigns and with many politicians, including Hillary Clinton, Sen. Charles Schumer and Howard Dean, and he weaves his years of experience into this narrative, his first stage production.
The title comes from a DC Metro station, and the play focuses on a 25-year-old campaign press secretary as he travels through a major political campaign, losing himself in the web of politicking as he connects with the advisor of a rival.
The play has been picked up by Warner Brothers, although no film production schedule has been announced.
