Lawyer speaks saying verdict “was expected.”
The verdict is in. O. J. Simpson was found guilty Friday night of 12 counts pertaining to an armed robbery in a Las Vegas Casino-Hotel in 2007, reports People.com.
Lawyer for O. J. Simpson, Yale Galanter, said at a press conference on Saturday that his client is “extremely upset, extremely emotional.”
The lawyer went on to say that there were no surprises in the verdict. "This was expected."
"It's not so much that we expected to lose," explained Galanter. "We knew this was going to be very difficult. We knew the jury was going to be very difficult. We knew juror selection was going to be very difficult."
He said that although he and fellow O. J. attorney Gabrielle Grasso “tried to weed out as best as we could the people with very fixed opinions,” jury selection could have gone better.
"I'm not here to tell you we didn't get a fair shake. All I'm saying is there are some significant issues on appeal. Obviously jury selection is going to be one of them."
Galanter also said that the 1995 murder trial where Simpson was acquitted of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, “absolutely” swayed jurors deliberating on the new case against him.
The attorney continued, "I can tell you that there are very strong feelings about Mr. Simpson, and I urged to judge him fairly, equally and honestly."
Reportedly, Galanter wished his client “good luck” after the verdict was read and Simpson was taken from the courtroom in handcuffs.
When asked how Simpson, 61, would fare in prison, Galanter said, "I don't know. I can't answer that. That's a tough question."
