“I Got a Crush . . . On Obama”

Obama Girl makes comedic videos about her favorite candidate for the 2008 elections.
It seems like the media have never been more involved with the elections then they are this year. By media, I’m specifically talking about entertainment outlets like YouTube and SNL. In June, a video called “I Got a Crush . . . On Obama” was released on YouTube and has already had more than 9 million hits. Whose got a crush? A model/actress/fashion designer named Amber Lee Ettinger, but has adopted the nick-name “Obama Girl.”
The partly political, mostly satirical video has catchy, comedic lines like, “I cannot wait til’ 2008, Barack Obama, baby, you’re the best candidate.”
The “Obama Girl” has other videos concerning her number one choice in the elections this year, as well as other comedic videos concerning politics. They are all featured on www.youtube.com/barelypolitical. Her most popular video, “I Got A Crush…” won 2007 video of the year by YouTube, AOL, Newsweek, People Magazine, the AP, Adrants, and Nerve.com.
When asked about this controversial video, Ettinger told Glam TV that the success of the video she made with the creator of “Barely Political” was a complete surprise. She also said the video took only six hours to shoot on the streets of New York. When asked if she thought the video had helped with Obama’s campaign, Ettinger responded that she’s not so sure it has helped him, but she’s happy that since many young people have watched the video, it may help voter turnout and excitement about politics.
