Jennifer Lopez Drops Out of Project Runway
12-Sep-2008
Written by: Ivana Cheong

The actress hurt her ankle and Tim Gunn takes her place.

At the taping of the finale Runway show this morning, Heidi Klum announced that Jennifer Lopez will not be serving as their final guest judge due to a recent foot injury. Access Hollywood was the first to report the story.

Lopez’s presence on the show has never been confirmed, as the producers wanted the details to be as cloudy as possible. According to E! Online, the actress/singer was injured when she was training for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, a race that will benefit Los Angeles’s Children’s Hospital.

"She had a slight injury," Lopez's rep said. "She will definitely be doing the triathlon. She does not want to let down her charity and all the people who have supported her."

Instead, Runway’s resident fashion mentor will be filling in. Even though he’s known the designers close to heart, he said that he will try to be as unbiased as possible, People wrote.

"Tim Gunn stepped in to the rescue and Runway fans who've always dreamed of seeing Sir Tim judge are going to get their wish," Runway executive producer Andy Cohen blogged earlier today at BravoTV.com.

"It just seemed totally fitting because he’s never been a judge," a source told People, noting that Gunn “was extremely nervous” to switch roles on the show.

The source also said that people “were crying because they were so moved by Tim being a judge.”

Lopez’s injury, on the other hand, is raising some confusion. After hurting her ankle, she is still running but she can’t sit through judging? "Working out and getting back into shape isn't exciting to me but training for a triathlon is," one of her blog entries on SELF magazine’s Web site read. "There's a goal at the end of it, something to reach for."
