“Hobbit” Filmmaker Has Remake Plans
4-Sep-2008
Written by: Jessica McCumber
For remakes of “Frankenstein” and “Jekyll” that is.
You would think that with two Hobbit films in the works, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro would have his hands full, but according to zap2it.com, Variety reports that the filmmaker is just getting started after signing a three-year deal with Universal in June of 2007.
On the list of to dos will be remakes of oldies but goodies Frankenstein, Slaughterhouse-Five and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde that seem to constantly have new adaptations.
The Pan’s Labyrinth director is also looking into doing a movie based on Dan Simmon’s novel, Drood, that takes a glance into the circumstances that help create The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Charles Dicken’s last novel. But, the book won’t even be out until February 2009.
With so many exciting projects coming up and said to fill del Toro’s time through 2017, it would seem unlikely that there would be a down side.
Sadly for fans though, all this upcoming work might mean no time for work on his reported projects of passion, like H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness or even a third installment in the popular Hellboy saga.
Reportedly, the director had even wanted to do a low budget film in Spanish along the lines of Labyrinth or The Devil’s Backbone.
