A New 90210
2-Sep-2008
Written by: Alexandra Perich

Who could forget Dylan, Donna, David, Kelly, Brenda, Brandon, Steve? Fans of '90s hit TV series Beverly Hills, 90210 surely can’t. The show was a 10-season phenomenon, featuring the lives of young teens and their cool cars, hot bodies, high fashion, and sky-high credit card bills.

Now, 18 years later, 90210, a spin-off of the original, is set to premiere on The CW network. The show is said to be a more contemporary version of Aaron Spelling’s original 90210 hit.

Fresh faces and fresh story lines will hopefully satisfy old fans and gain some new fans. Original fans will be delighted to see some of their favorite original cast members.

According to the San Jose Mercury, Shannen Doherty is returning as a grown-up Brenda! Now an esteemed stage actress, Brenda returns to West Beverly High to direct the school's musical. Jennie Garth (Kelly) is a student counselor and mother of a 4-year-old son! Could it possibly be Dylan’s? Maybe Brandon’s?

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his KISS-FM radio show, Garth told Seacrest she wasn’t initially too excited about reprising her role as Kelly Taylor. “First I wasn’t too big on the idea,” Garth told Seacrest. “It took me a while to settle in with it.”

Garth soon changed her mind. According to People, Garth said, “So many people are so dedicated to that show. If they’re going to do a new show, I wanted to be there for the old fans of the original show. . . . I just thought the fans would really like it.”

Hints have been dropped that a few other original cast members will make appearances on the show. According to People, Tori Spelling (Donna Martin) is considering returning; and when asked about Jason Priestley (Brandon Walsh), Garth told Seacrest, “I think it might happen.”

The new 90210 is set to premiere on The CW on Tuesday September 2, at 8:00 p.m.
