“In a World . . .” Without Don LaFontaine, Voice Actor
2-Sep-2008
Written by: Mike Harwood
Don LaFontaine dies at 68.
Don LaFontaine, best known for his distinctive, dramatic voice-overs in theatrical trailers, has passed away at the age of 68.
LaFontaine had worked on a reported 5,000 projects for film, television and radio and is one of the most recognizable voices in cinema history. He once claimed to perform over 80 different projects a day.
While no doubt one of the hardest working men in Hollywood, he didn’t mind poking fun at himself. Recently, he made a rare on-screen appearance in a Geico commercial, in a parody of his usual scripts.
He died yesterday due to severe complications from a collapsed lung. He’d been attempting to treat the medical issue over the past few months. He’s survived by his wife and three children.
The “King of Voice-Overs” will be missed in our beloved trailers and his contributions will not be forgotten.
