Natalie Portman won the first-ever “Movie for Humanity Award” at the Venice Film Festival.

The Venice Film Festival was a time of firsts for actress Natalie Portman. Not only did she get to premiere her directorial debut film, Eve, she was also the recipient of the festival’s first-ever “Movie for Humanity Award.” The 27-year-old Star Wars actress was presented with the $50,000 prize for her efforts in social and environmental programs. Portman donated her winnings to the Jane Goodall Institute in Tanzania, where she works with the Institute’s TACARE Girls' Scholarship Program. Portman spoke about the award saying, “The Jane Goodall foundation does incredible work in Tanzania, an area which is very environmentally affected. I really appreciate this award.”
