New DVD Documentary Releases

American Experience: The Presidents Collection - PBS Home Video

Get an in-depth look into the lives and times of American Presidents through this detailed PBS collection. With 37 hours of content, this collection takes an unflinching eye to our national history and the men who helped shape it.

The series includes such influential leaders as, Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909), Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921), FDR (1933-1945), Truman (1945-1953), Kennedys (1961- 1963), LBJ (1963-1969), Nixon (1969-1974), Carter (1977-1981), Reagan (1981-1989) and George H. W. Bush (1989-1993).

The documentary series will become available August 26.

America’s Greatest Monuments - Smithsonian Networks

This DVD, produced by the Smithsonian, gives viewers a glimpse into the history and facets on some of Washington D.C.’s most distinct national treasures. Our nation’s capital city’s memorials, statues, and landmarks are discussed in detail with crisp DVD visual quality.

The DVD and Blu-ray disks will be released September 23.

Storm Over Everest

This documentary details the events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster in which eight men lost their lives during a dangerous trek to the mountain’s summit.

The surviving members of the expedition and the search party give their account of the deadly blizzard, which descended over the peak over ten years ago. Narrator and survivor David Breashears returns to the site of what is now considered the worst tragedy and loss of human life for the world’s tallest mountain.

The DVD will be released September 2.

Absolutely Irish

This DVD showcases traditional Irish music performed by celebrated musicians. The performances take place in New York City’s iconic Hell’s Kitchen and feature three generations of Irish musicians, including 80-year-old flutist Mike Rafferty. The live performance takes place in the city’s historic Irish Arts Center.

Absolutely Irish will be released September 2.

Darfur Now

Darfur Now intends to illuminate the viewers perspective to the systematic genocide taking place in Sudan. The film sheds light on the situation and inspires the viewer to get involved with finding a solution.

The film revolves around six stories from different individuals, one of whom is Oscar nominated actor Don Cheadle. Cheadle became distinctly aware of the human rights violation while filming on location in Africa for his film, Hotel Rwanda. The six individuals each try to find their own way to speak up for the African suffering.

This DVD is currently available in stores.

To the Hills 2

This sequel to the low-budget comedy video, To the Hills, is a collection of 25 short, independent films. The subjects of these comedic shorts are as varied as possible, ranging from how to handle awkward scenarios to learning how to travel through time. The DVD is both written and directed by Fritz Donnelly.

This DVD is available online and in select stores now.

Chicago 10

This partially animated documentary outlines the events of the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois. During the Convention, a large group of young protestors formed and were facing the Chicago police force for the better part of the week. Escalations led to riots that were televised on nearly 50 million televisions, resulting in mass controversy.

The film documents the events and trials of the eight anti-war protestors held responsible for the chaos. Actors Hank Azaria, Dylan Baker, Nick Nolte, Mark Ruffalo, Roy Scheider, Liev Schreiber, and Jeffrey Wright all lend their voices in this project.

This 100 minute long film will be released August 26.
