Toby Keith Has Kind Words for Barack Obama
19-Aug-2008
Written by: Joe Thomas

Many misconstrue Toby Keith’s song, “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue,” for being pro-war.

According to the Associated Press, country musician Toby Keith had kind words for Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

Keith is known by many non-country music fans for his patriotic song, “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue,” in which he says, “We lit up your world like the Fourth of July.”

Many fans believe the song to be pro-war, however, Keith tells the Associated Press he is a Democrat and that the song was meant to be more patriotic than pro-war.

When asked about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Keith said, “There's a big part of America that really believes that there is a war on terrorism, and that we need to finish up.”

“I thought it was beautiful the other day when Obama went to Afghanistan and got educated about Afghanistan and Iraq. He came back and said some really nice things,” said Keith.

“So as far as leadership and patriotism goes, I think it's really important that those things have to take place. And I think he's the best Democratic candidate we've had since Bill Clinton. And that's coming from a Democrat,” he continued.
