Springsteen Chevy to Join NY Rock and Roll Museum Collection
14-Aug-2008

The recently announced New York branch of Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum will feature one of the Boss’s antiques.
From “Cadillac Ranch” to “Drive All Night,” the Boss knows his cars. So if you’re displaying a piece of Bruce Springsteen memorabilia, a vintage auto is a good way to go.
That’s what the new Rock and Roll Hall of Fame museum is betting on at least. Though it’s not the “'69 Chevy with a 396” featured in “Racing in the Street,” they at least got another of his Chevys, from '57.
Opening in November in the SoHo area of Manhattan, as a new branch to the main location in Cleveland, the museum will focus on New York articles and artists, including the awning from legendary punk club CBGB’s and a selection of Billy Joel memorabilia donated by the Piano Man himself.
“There really isn't a more fitting spot for this museum than New York, the hometown of hall of famers like the Velvet Underground, Paul Simon and Blondie,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. “This is where Ed Sullivan met the Beatles, where Lou Reed took a walk on the wild side.”
On hand at Wednesday’s announcement were Joel himself and legendary producer Clive Davis. Several exhibits from the museum’s Cleveland home will make their way to New York for the annex’s two year run, starting with a retrospective on The Clash.
