Wife of Yankees third baseman files for divorce, Monday.
As his wife filed for divorce, Monday, the New York Daily News reported that famed New York Yankees player Alex Rodriguez had a penchant for exotic dancers that helped pull the marriage apart.
According to an anonymous source, Rodriguez frequents strip clubs both at home and on the road while also maintaining long-term relationships with several of the dancers. He is said to have taken one, Monique, out on an extravagant Fifth Avenue shopping spree while another, Joslyn, was listed as one of the passengers on his private plane.
A spokesman for Rodriguez dismissed the rumors, calling the relationship with Monique a “fabrication” and said Mia, another stripper, was simply an ex-girlfriend. About Joslyn, however, with whom Rodriguez was photographed going into a Toronto hotel, the spokesman kept quiet.
A notorious womanizer, reports of Rodriguez chatting up women all across the country are nothing new. When he and his wife separated earlier this month, however, such reports started to bear heavier consequences. According to ESPN, Cynthia Rodriguez cited “emotional abandonment” and marital infidelity in her divorce papers.
Since the birth of his second daughter in April, the couple had been reported to be struggling. Though the Daily News says Mrs. Rodriguez could live with her husband’s sexual deviances, she described his newest linkage with the singer Madonna as “an affair of the heart.”
Madonna has denied the affair, while stories about her own marriage to Guy Ritchie crumbling have begun to circulate.
One dancer, Candice Houlihan, came out in support of Mrs. Rodriguez. She claims to have had sex with Rodriguez twice in 2004, without knowing his wife was pregnant at the time. In an interview with the Boston Herald, she said, “A leopard doesn’t change his spots. Good for [Cynthia], I think she’s doing the smart thing. And she’ll probably get tons of cash.”
