CNN Poll Shows Americans Fear of Terrorism Is at Record Low
2-Jul-2008
Written by: Steve Ruback
Lowest level of fear since September 11 terrorist attack.
A jointly conducted poll performed by CNN and the Opinion Research Corporation provided results that were released earlier today that indicate the nation’s concern over a terrorist attack occurring has reached its lowest point to date in the post-September 11 era.
The poll shows that merely 35 percent of our country believes a terrorist attack is going to occur on American soil over the next several weeks.
This statistic in comparison to the poll results from the summer of 2007 indicate a six point percentage decrease, when 41 percent of those who responded to the poll believed a terrorist attack would be occurring.
Keating Holland, CNN’s Polling Director, gave analysis about how the poll results are going to affect Republican presidential hopeful John McCain in the months leading up to the general election.
Holland said, "Senator McCain's greatest strength is in foreign policy, particularly his reputation as the candidate best able to fight the war on terror.” With the nation at its lowest level of concern over the threat of terrorism since the tragic September 11 attack, the results seem to neutralize the Republican’s greatest campaign strength.
