Hartnett to make stage debut in London.

Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett is set to star in a London stage adaptation of Rain Man, BBC News reports.

Hartnett, 29, will be taking on the role originated by Tom Cruise in the Oscar-winning film. He will play car dealer Charlie Babbitt in the West End stage adaptation.

The actor – whose screen credits include Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, and Wicker Park – is thrilled to be making his stage debut in the role, which he calls a “complex and charismatic character.”

The play opens in September and will costar British actor Adam Godley as Babbitt’s autistic brother, Raymond. Dustin Hoffman, who starred in this role in the 1988 film, won an Academy Award for his portrayal.

Hartnett is very excited to be making his stage debut in London. “It has always been my intent to work on the London stage,” he raves.

The play is written by Dan Gordon and directed by David Grindley, and will be shown at The Apollo Theatre.
