Reports Surfacing of Will Smith’s New School as a Scientology Front

Reports surfacing of Will Smith’s new school as a Scientology front.

The New York Daily News has reported that Hancock star Will Smith, and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, are funding a new school in Los Angeles called New Village Academy that will utilize teaching methods of Scientology.

While the Smiths are close friends with Scientologists Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, they have maintained that they are not Scientologists themselves.

The teaching method in question is called “study technology,” which was developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Some people argue that it is a legitimate teaching method, while others insist that it is a way that Scientologists recruit new members.

The school administrator, Jacqueline Olivier, who is responsible for hiring new teachers, insists that the school does not have any religious affiliation. While some of the staff are in fact Scientologists, Olivier told the Los Angeles Times that there are many Christian, Jewish, and Muslim teachers as well.

New Village Academy is scheduled to open on Sept. 3, and is one of the many initiatives by the Smiths that support those involved with the arts and education.
