Show moves from Las Vegas to Los Angeles for 25th anniversary.
The MTV Music Awards, well-known recently for last year's comeback performance by Britney Spears, will return to Los Angeles for the first time in a decade when it airs on September 7, Reuters reports.
The awards show will take place in the Paramount Pictures lot in Hollywood for its 25th anniversary. Since the show was last in Los Angeles, it has been held in New York, moved to Miami for 2004 and 2005, and moved to Las Vegas last year.
MTV said the show would incorporate the city streets, rooftops, and sound stages of the Paramount lot into the show. Announcements for performers will be made at a later date, the network said.
A total of 7.1 million viewers tuned into the show to see Spears's disastrous performance last year, according to Nielsen media research. The record for most viewers was set in 1999 when 12 million tuned in to watch.
