The Jonas Brothers vs. Zac Efron

Camp Rock ropes in more viewers than High School Musical, but not High School Musical 2.
Disney Channel's new movie, Camp Rock, starring the singing group, the Jonas Brothers, premiered last Friday. The question on everyone's mind was whether all three Jonases could top the famed Zac Efron of High School Musical.
The premiere of High School Musical roped in 7.8 million viewers. Its popularity carried it a long way, as the premiere of its sequel, High School Musical 2, earned a cool 17.2 million viewers last August.
So, did the Jonas Brothers musical top Zac Efron's? The answer is yes, but no. Camp Rock averaged 8.9 million viewers, beating out High School Musical, but not its sequel. High School Musical 2 retains the title of the most watched non-sports program ever on cable television.
There are many factors to take into consideration as to why Camp Rock premiered with more viewers than the first High School Musical. The Jonas Brothers had more fame pre-made-for-TV-musical than Zac Efron and company of High School Musical. HSM was their ticket to fame. So why couldn’t Camp Rock beat out HSM2? Simple: Sequels are tough to beat. However, if Camp Rock catches on like High School Musical, whose reruns still score high ratings, then the Jonas Brothers are about to do very well for themselves.
