The Creator of “Thomas and Friends” Dies

At the age of 69, David Mitton dies.

David Mitton is the creator of children’s programs and his most beloved is Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, which is about trains on the mythical Island of Sodor learning the importance of friendship, honesty, kindness, and teamwork. This show is seen in 145 countries all around the world and has had huge success since it began in 1984, and in 2000 starred Alec Baldwin as Mr. Conductor in the feature film, Thomas and the Magic Railroad. He was also one of the partners in Pineapple Squared Entertainment, a production company specified for children’s TV shows.

According to Michele Fabian-Jones, a partner at Pineapple Squared Entertainment, he had died on a heart attack on May 28, reported the NY Times. Mitton had been bored in Edinburgh as the son of an engineer and had loved planes, boats, and comedy shows.

His other credits include: Adventures on Orsum Island, Tugs, Thunderbirds, Joe 90, and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.
