Billy Bob Thornton Releases New Album
10-Jun-2008
Written by: Shari Myles

The actor is set to release album with band the Boxmasters and tour the U.S. this summer.

As if being an Academy Award winning actor wasn’t enough, Billy Bob Thornton aspires to add accomplished musician to his resume. According to Reuters, the Monster’s Ball actor would rather be pursuing his first love: music.

Thornton's band, the Boxmasters, is set to release its first album on Tuesday, a double disc project with one disc of original songs written by Thornton.

The former partner of Angelina Jolie is not new to the music game, however. He released four solo albums between 2001 and 2007.

“I've always been committed to music first,” Thornton told Reuters. “It just so happened that I accidentally became a movie star. So it's really more like I use the movies to keep me from going broke between records.”

Thornton has been playing drums since the age of 9 and became acquainted with the music industry as a roadie for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band during the 1970s.

Thornton aspires to one day write a song with two of his idols, Kris Kristofferson and John Prine.

The actor/musician’s Boxmasters bandmates include J. D. Andrews and Mike Butler. In a statement, Thornton revealed that the band is set to tour the United States this summer.
