Carrie Underwood Joins Grand Ole Opry
11-May-2008
Written by: Hillary Frazier

Former “Idol” Carrie Underwood was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry over the weekend.

Carrie Underwood became the newest, and one of the youngest members of the Grand Ole Opry. The former American Idol winner joined the famous country music show over the weekend with a formal induction from veteran Garth Brooks, and a duet from another respected artist, Vince Gill. Underwood told the Associated Press, “This seems like a great family to be part of, I promise I’ll do everything I possibly can to not make you regret it.” Brooks isn’t regretting it, adding, “Being around you five minutes, I can see you get it. In coming from Oklahoma, I know you’re sharp as a wit.” He also told her, on presentation of her bronze statue, “Nothing will last as long or be as important as this award right here,” according to Access Hollywood and the Associated Press.

Underwood was an Idol success story with her debut album, Some Hearts, selling 7 million copies, and her second album, Carnival Ride, producing two chart-topping hits.

The Opry is the longest running radio show in the country, with previous members such as Patsy Cline, Alan Jackson, and Martina Mcbride, and current younger stars Brad Paisley, Josh Turner, and Dierks Bentley.
