Is Cyrus the Next Britney?
3-May-2008
Written by: Melanie Sutrathada
After Miley Cyrus’s “Vanity Fair” photo, she seems to be following in the footsteps of other former child stars.
Miley Cyrus, the star of Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, has been embraced as a role model for children, due to her scandal-free reputation. But as of late, the teen superstar has been the center of trouble.
After being featured in Vanity Fair in an image that suggests the 15-year-old is nude in bed, the controversy brings up the idea that what seems to be missing in Cyrus's career choices is parental guidance.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Cyrus's parents were on the set during the Vanity Fair shoot; however, they expressed regret only after the controversy erupted.
Cyrus reportedly will earn an enormous $1 billion this year from her flims, music, TV and merchandise. Perhaps her parents have adopted an ambiguous stance so as not to endanger what has become a profitable money rake for them. They, however, must ponder the costs against the benefits, and recognize that parental guidance is also necessary from the parents of the millions of young girls who look up to the teen sensation.
Families should talk about why the Cyrus pose in the photo is unsuitable for any 15-year-old girl, since Cyrus has a great deal of influence on many adolescent girls.
Controversies surrounding Cyrus, Britney, Jamie Lynn Spears and other young celebrities, such as Mary-Kate Olsen, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton, leave one contemplating whether we should encourage our children to respect any stars at all.
