Ian McShane, from “Deadwood,” stars in new NBC drama “Kings.”
Ian McShane, known from Deadwood, is set to star in Kings, an upcoming drama on NBC, reveals Entertainment Weekly.
The story is said to be based on that of King David, the Biblical king of Israel, and presents a pure-hearted young warrior (Christopher Egan) that ends up joining the court of King Silas (McShane).
As stated by Hollywood Reporter, Francis Lawrence will be directing the pilot written by Michael Green, the co-executive producer for Heroes. Those two, along with Lawrence's manager, Erwin Stoff, will executively produce the Universal Media Studios project.
Green makes known that Kings centers on “a regular small-town guy who gets mixed up with the upper crust social and political elite of a monarchy and eventually would become the new king. . . . It's a Cinderella story and a story of struggle for power.”
The plot of the soap runs parallel with the story of the biblical David, a shepherd boy who defeats Goliath to be crowned Israel’s king.
NBC programming chief Ben Silverman highlights that, “It's a story of the underdog that anyone can relate to. . . . We love to beat Goliath.”
