Michael Jordan Agrees to an Unprecedented Divcorce Settlement
13-Nov-2007
Written by: Stacey Eisenberg

Basketball Sperstar Breaks Yet Another Record

Chicago’s basketball hero, Michael Jordan, is preparing to finalize his divorce from wife, Juanita, in a record-breaking settlement, reports the Times Online. The split happened last December, and the initial settlement amount requested from Juanita shocked Jordan and he immediately turned it down.

Almost a year later, the 44 year-old superstar has agreed to an amount over $40 million more than the initial proposition. Jordan is settling his divorce for an unprecedented amount of $168 million, including the couple’s seven-acre estate in a Chicago suburb and custody of their three children.

Jordan’s settlement surpasses the most expensive divorce on public record, in which Neil Diamond lost $155 million to his ex-wife. It makes the high-profile divorces of Steven Spielberg ($103 million), Sir Mick Jagger ($25 million), and Sir Paul McCartney (estimated $103 million) look like small change.

According to a legal source close to Jordan, the price is worth it. After 17 years with Juanita, he is ready to move on and is willing to do whatever it takes to do so. The couple met on a blind date in 1984, and before their marriage, signed a prenuptial agreement that entitled Juanita to half of Michael’s fortune, which was already sizable when they met.

Juanita, 48, has only claimed a third of the most famous athlete’s fortune and is said to be involved with a banker 20 years younger than herself.
