Leona Helmsley’s Last Will Makes Dog A Millionaire
29-Aug-2007
Written by: Joseph Caintic

The “Queen of Mean” leaves a will that has everyone baffled.

The will of Leona Hemsley, the hotel and real estate investor who died last week, was recently revealed.

The 14-page document leaves the bulk of her $4 billion fortune to the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust. She had donated $35 million to charities in recent years.

There are also more unusual provisions in her will. For instance, Mrs. Helmsley left $12 million to a trust for her white Maltese, Trouble.

She also left behind $5 million each to her grandsons, David and Walter Panzirer, who must visit their father’s grave each year to get the fortune. But she also excluded two grandchildren for “…reasons which are known to them.”

Leona Helmsley was convicted of tax evasion in 1989. She died at the age of 87.
