President Hands Reins to Cheney Temporarily
20-Jul-2007
Written by: Jess Boettger
For the second time while in office, President Bush will hand presidential power to Vice Pres. Cheney while undergoing a colonoscopy.
You can call him President Cheney -— at least for a few hours. Vice President Dick Cheney will once again assume command while President George Bush undergoes another routine colonoscopy. Back in 2002, Cheney took the helm for the first colonoscopy while Bush was under anesthesia. He will do so again on Saturday, July 21st.
Bush will undergo the procedure at Camp David, the presidential retreat located in Maryland. The routine test inspects the large intestine to check for potential tumors. The White House press secretary, Tony Snow, informed the media that a team of doctors from the National Naval Medical Centre in Bethesda will perform the procedure, writes The Guardian Unlimited. The procedure will be closely supervised by Dr. Richard Tubb, the president’s physician. The 2002 colonoscopy was only the second instance in history when the presidential disability clause was invoked. Ronald Reagan was the first to use it since the amendment’s adoption in 1967.
