An Oscar worthy group and Contest to consider!
Written by: Lynda Dale MacLean
What better way to get in the spirit of an awards show, than picking your hopeful winners through our special Oscar contest!
TheCelebrityCafe.com, in celebration of this year's 76th Annual Academy Awards, is running a contest where your winning-entry vote will enable you to maybe, just maybe, be the lucky recipient of 60 CDs.
All it will take, is just a few minutes to submit your vote for whom you think will take home the golden man, so lovingly known by just one name, Oscar. What do you have to lose? That's right, nothing, but you do have the chance to win big! If you're not sure about the nominees, don't worry, you have plenty of time to catch up on all of their Oscar-nominated performances by hitting the video store, catching a matinee or two, or reading up about them in our movie reviews at TheCelebrityCafe.com. To name a few, we have reviews on Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Lost in Translation, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Seabiscuit, and Finding Nemo. Check back often, for more Oscar-nominated movie reviews.
Good luck to the nominees and to our readers. Oscar night will not only be about the films and performances, but for one lucky player, this night might be about YOU!
As we know, the nominations for Oscar contention have been announced and,
some will be celebrating the news, but others will not. Overall, I think this is going to be a remarkable show with teeth-clenching and sweaty-palms excitement! This is what Oscar night is all about, the unknown; the underdog who may come out and tear apart the room with a win.
Here's a little background on some of the nominees you'll recognize from their fabulous credentials or the new faces that likely will become some of the best in the business; at least that's what they hope and, truthfully, so do I.
Actor:
Johnny Deep is an exceptionally gifted actor who becomes the priceless role he plays with such a coat of mystery, skill, and channeling. From such engagingly memorable and enchanting movies as Edward Scissorhands, Don Juan DeMarco, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Ed Wood (terrific); to name a few of the many. Johnny Deep is finally being recognized for his important work as an artist.
Jude Law is a man with plenty of talent exploding out of him. I loved him and I was just as immersed in the character he played in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil as I was in The Talented Mr. Ripley. Jude Law is one to continue to watch dominate the screen.
Ben Kingsley is an astonishing actor that has a huge remarkable presence about him. From his work in Gandhi, Schindler's List, Species, and Dave, among others, he's a masterfully brilliant actor.
Bill Murray, how do you say something that can clearly tell of a man's exceptional capability to perform in comedic, as well as dramatic, roles other than to say that he's a genius. I adored him in Groundhog Day; I laughed ridiculously in What About Bob; as well as, enjoyed him in such movies as Rushmore, Ghostbusters, and Kingpin.
Sean Penn, truly, has proven what a deep, focused, interesting, capable, driven and hugely-talented actor he has become. From Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Game, Dead Man Walking, The Weight of Water, The Falcon and the Snowman, Carlito's Way, and State of Grace; the list just goes on and on. Sean Penn, truly, is a great performer; one of the best in our generation.
Supporting Actor:
Alec Baldwin is an actor that has defined himself as a strong influence in the acting field. There's so much more to him and it is now coming into view. From his work in Beatlejuice, Working Girl, The Hunt for Red October, Ghosts of Mississippi, and Malice, among so many more, Alec is turning heads in so many ways!
Benicio Del Toro is a super package of charisma, attitude, and talent! Movies such as Traffic, China Moon, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (I just couldn't swallow this one, but his performance was amazing); he's so electric!
Tim Robbins is pure talent through and through. This guy is good, very good and just wonderful to watch on screen. Some of Tim's classic films are The Shawsank Redemption, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Player, I.Q. (yep, I liked this one), and Bull Durham (so good!)
Actress:
Diane Keaton is a wonderful, delightful, hilarious, moving and so sensational! Some of my favorites by her include: Father of the Bride, First Wives Club, and Baby Boom.
Charlize Theron is a bundle of talent that wowed us all in 2 Days In The Valley and I so enjoyed her performance in The Devil's Advocate. Look out, this lady is going to be huge!
Naomi Watts is an exceptional, mesmerizing, a remarkable force on screen. When I saw her in Mulholland Drive, I was in awe as she's was outstanding! This is another actress that is going to burn up the path on which she walks!
Supporting Actress:
Holly Hunter is a dynamite package of incredibleness! From performances in Raising Arizona, The Firm, Always, A Life Less Ordinary (I loved her in this!), Living Out Loud, Home for the Holidays, and Broadcast News, she a potent, spunky, brick house of talent!
Renée Zellweger is a power punch of amazement! This girl is golden (and I don't mean because of Oscar); this lady is so full of talent that it just falls off of her. So many wonderful movies will show you how breathtaking and engaging she is, as she warms the screen and takes it over with her stunning performances. Some of my favorites are: Bridget Jones Diary, Chicago, Jerry Maguire, and Nurse Betty.
This year, the winners won't just take home gold, but they'll be golden throughout the year and I feel that the nominees who don't take an Oscar home, will be around for a long time to come.
