Chris Benoit doctor may be charged over drugs
Phil Astin, the doctor accused of dangerous drug giveaways, allegedly provided drugs to famous wrestler Chris Benoit.
Chris Benoit, who recently killed his wife and son before taking his own life, was being treated by the doctor. Chris was under Astin’s care from the months of April 2004 and September 2005. He apparently flipped out and started acting crazy due to signs of depression. Chris was given numerous amounts and different types of drugs, including Percocet, Xanax, Lorcet and Vicoprofen.
Astin is up against a seven count indictment and appeared in court on Monday. Not only is Astin up against the opposed charges with Benoit, but he is also involved in a separate criminal complaint that alleges he had written prescriptions for about 1 million doses of controlled substances over the past two years, including "significant quantities" of injectable testosterone cypionate, an anabolic steroid.
According to Anissa Jones, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent, the amount of prescriptions were excessive for a medical office with a sole practitioner in a rural area in Georgia. The sworn statement stated Astin prescribed a 10-month supply of anabolic steroids to Benoit every three to four weeks within one year. It says that during an inquiry into a firm called RX Weight Loss, Benoit was identified as an excessive buyer of injectable steroids. The statement also said Astin was identified as the supplier of various controlled substances, including the type of injectable anabolic steroids that were found in Benoit's home.
Although Astin has not been charged with supplying steroids to Benoit, there is a lucky chance that Astin will be charged with other possible charges according to US Federal Attorney David Nahmias. The whole situation is sad, and fans are praying for his family as well as his wife’s family. Just to think a doctor, who is there to help, can sometimes be at fault for the problem is worse than one could imagine. This type of behavior makes people second guess their doctors because of the lack of trust.
